Remembering Günter Blobel

Guenter Blobel word cloud

Dr. Günter Blobel, a pioneer of modern cell biology who won the Nobel Prize for discovering signals in proteins that determine their localization in the cell, sadly passed away this February. Passionate about science till the end, he left an enormous legacy of discoveries, and of trainees he mentored in his lab at the Rockefeller University. He was Martin Kampmann's PhD mentor from 2003-2009, for research on the architecture and dynamics of the Nuclear Pore Complex. The image shows a word cloud of descriptions of Günter by his former trainees. It is part of an article commemorating his life and achievements:
