The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), part of the NIH, established a new multidisciplinary "Center Without Walls" for research on Tau, a protein involved in Alzheimer's Disease, Frontotemporal Degeneration and other neurodegenerative diseases. The Kampmann lab will contribute CRISPRi/a technology and conduct genetic screens to enable the identification of molecular mechanisms of tau pathogenesis and neurodegeneration. Other groups in the Center are led by Dr. Li Gan (Gladstone Institutes), Dr. Ken Kosik (UC Santa Barbara), Dr. Ana-Maria Cuervo (Albert Einstein College of Medicine), Dr. Bruce Miller and Dr. Lea Grinberg (UCSF), Dr. Nevan Krogan and Ruth Huttenhain (Gladstone Institutes) and Dr. Giovanni Coppola (UCLA).
